A new GoFree feature allows anglers and boaters to create custom contour maps not only with Insight Genesis, but also with third-party services like Reefmaster, Navionics SonarCharts and others – using sonar log data exported as a GPX file from Insight Genesis.
“Never before has the consumer been able to make a map from a Lowrance, Simrad or B&G chartplotter, then export that map data for use on any third-party chartplotter or charting software,” said Leif Ottosson, CEO of Navico, parent company of GoFree, Lowrance, Simrad and B&G. “No other marine electronics company is as committed as Navico to ensuring that all boaters have access to our cloud-based open-source platform, as well as the ability to access the most up-to-date maps and charts.”
GoFree is Navico’s newest brand. Insight Genesis is an innovative, cloud-based service that empowers anglers and boaters to make custom contour maps of un-mapped bodies of water, improve contour detail on previously mapped waters, and to discover areas of interest not charted on off-the shelf maps, including reefs, sunken islands, holes, humps, submerged vegetation and hard-bottom areas. To create highly detailed contour maps with Insight Genesis, you need not buy additional hardware or expensive digital chips. All you need is an inexpensive SD card of any brand and the Lowrance, Simrad or B&G fish-finder already on your boat.*
Building on its open-platform commitment, GoFree’s new GPX-export feature offers the ability to export position, date and depth data from .SLG, .SL2 and .SL3, sonar-recording formats into the universal .GPX file type. Combining the latest advancements in sonar and web technology for rapid data update as recording formats change, Insight Genesis ensures more accurate data output and consistent results when using proprietary and third-party software for analysis.
How to …
To export a .GPX file, simply upload a an .SLG, .SL2 or .SL3 sonar recording to Insight Genesis using a FREE or Premium account, either via SD card or directly from a wirelessly connected multifunction display. Once processing is complete, the new log file will appear in the user’s Insight Genesis dashboard with an option to export a .GPX-formatted file. Clicking on the .GPX link (see the image above) offers the ability to open or save the file for use with products from Lowrance, Simrad, B&G and GoFree or other third-party products such as Reefmaster and Navionics SonarCharts.
* To use your custom Insight Genesis maps on the water, you’ll need a Lowrance, Simrad or B&G chartplotter.
