And be sure to record sonar logs when you do. The angler that uploads the most acres of Lake Murray sonar data to Insight Genesis between Feb. 14 and March 14 will win the grand prize in the Insight Genesis Lake Murray Challenge – a $2,499-value Lowrance HDS-9 Gen 2 Touch unit with transducer and a $229-value Wifi-1 accessory.

HDS-7-wifi-1-COLLAGEThe grand prize will be awarded on March 14 after a day-long Insight Genesis Lake Murray Mapping Party & Big Fish Bash, sponsored by Lowrance and GoFree. The angler who catches the biggest fish during the event will win an HDS-7 Gen 2 Touch with transducer and a WiFi-1. To be eligible to win the grand prize, upload your Lake Murray sonar data to Insight Genesis before March 13 and participate in the March 14 Mapping Party.

Insight Genesis, GoFree’s innovative mapping tool, helps anglers catch more and bigger fish in several ways: providing them free downloads of community-sourced contour charts from Insight Genesis Social Map; enabling them to create their own custom contour maps of un-mapped bodies of water; and helping them discover and dissect tournament-winning spot-on-the-spot areas that often don’t show up on other chart chips and/or map apps. Insight Genesis maps are exclusive to Lowrance, Simrad and B&G chartplotters. Learn more about uploading sonar data and creating your own contour maps HERE.

“Insight Genesis is a game-changer,” says Lowrance’s Candler McCollum, a former Auburn fishing team standout. “No other mapping is better at helping you find ‘the juice’ – sweet spots like shell beds, hard-to-soft-bottom transitions areas, and off-shore humps and ledges that don’t appear on any off-the-shelf map. For serious tournament anglers, just graphing spots in practice isn’t enough any more – you need to be mapping your spots with Insight Genesis.”

2014 and 2009 Bassmaster Classic champions Randy Howell (left) and Skeet Reese, respectively.

2009 Bassmaster Classic Champ Skeet Reese agrees.

“The mapping that you know and use today, really isn’t that accurate,” he says. “Insight Genesis allows you to really, truly see those sweet spots, within a sweet spot, within a sweet spot.”

2014 Bassmaster Classic Champion Randy Howell seconded Skeet’s observations.

“You may be surprised at how much detail you may be missing out on” if you’re not using Insight Genesis maps, Howell says.

Insight Genesis is a service provided by GoFree, the newest brand in Navico family. Navico, the world’s largest manufacturer of marine electronics, is also the parent company of Lowrance, Simrad and B&G brands.

Berkley e-motionParticipants in the Insight Genesis Lake Murray Mapping Party will also have an opportunity to win one of several additional prizes: three Berkley E-Motion fishing rods; three big prize packs of Berkley baits; and one WiFi-1 module. To qualify for the rods and WiFi-1 unit, pre-register for the event by March 7 by clicking “Join” on this Facebook event page.

Making highly detailed contour maps with Insight Genesis is as easy as recording sonar data with your Lowrance Elite or HDS Gen 2 fish-finder and then uploading your sonar-log files to Insight Genesis online. If you’ve ever posted a photo to Facebook, you’ve got the know-how to upload a sonar log.

Making custom maps with Insight Genesis is not only easy, it’s in the best interests of individual anglers and the fishing community at large, via Insight Genesis Social Map, a rapidly growing online database of custom contour maps generated and shared by community-minded Lowrance users. If 12 anglers upload just an hour’s worth of sonar data, a 1,000-acre lake can be mapped in practically no time. If 100 people contribute, all 100 of them will have access to 10,000 acres, all via Social Map. Just think what will happen when 10,000 people are contributing an hour’s worth or more of sonar data!

Making custom maps with Insight Genesis is not only easy, it’s in the best interests of individual anglers and the fishing community at large, via Insight Genesis Social Map, a rapidly growing online database of custom contour maps generated and shared by community-minded Lowrance users.

Anglers and other boaters can now download FREE Insight Genesis Social Map charts for use on the water in their Lowrance, Simrad and B&G sonar/GPS chartplotters.* Once only a feature available in paid Premium Insight Genesis subscriptions, downloadable Social Map charts are now free to all subscribers. Another free new feature is a dazzling contour color palette that displays Insight Genesis and Social Map charts on a chartplotter with the same blue-scale, depth-shading available previously only in online versions of the maps.

With Insight Genesis Social Map, you can quickly and effortlessly get detailed contour maps of thousands of water bodies, including those close to home, across the country, and around the globe. Built on a base layer of existing contour charts, Social Map refreshes itself in near real-time with current sonar data shared by the Insight Genesis community, revealing new fishing holes for anglers in never-before-seen detail.

“In every lake, river and reservoir there are humps and holes, ditches and drop-offs, and other fish-holding bottom structure that have essentially remained secret, because they don’t show up on anglers’ maps – even the most expensive of the digital chip maps might miss potential hot spots,” McCollum explains. “But when you make custom contour maps with Insight Genesis, you can unlock all the secrets of your favorite lake.”

GoFREE CollageYou can harness the power of Insight Genesis for yourself with a free account or a premium subscription. With either, you can create, use and save unlimited custom and social maps online; contribute sonar data; create, edit and store waypoints; manually adjust water-level offsets; and analyze weather trends. As a Premium subscriber, you can also create unique bottom-hardness and vegetation-location maps, and can choose to mark your maps as private for personal use only. No matter which option you choose, your trails, waypoints and other personal data are always kept private.

Sonar Tips & Tricks Seminar

Even frequent users of Lowrance electronics will tell you – in hushed tones, after swearing you to secrecy – that although they love their HDS and Elite units, they don’t know how to use all the fish-finding features packed into them. Don’t worry, we tell them, you’re not the only one! We’ve even heard longtime touring bass pros say they don’t know how to use every feature in their Lowrance unit, and that if they’d take the time to learn to use them better, they’d probably finish better in tournaments.

So Lowrance is offering free 1-on-1 training sessions from HDS and Elite experts on how to best set up your Lowrance electronics to find and catch fish, including training on Insight Genesis custom mapping. At the seminars, you will learn to:

  • Tweak your Lowrance HDS unit settings for specific types of fishing
  • Recognize fish on StructureScan and DownScan
  • Locate previously unknown fish-holding structure with Insight Genesis custom contour maps
